Industry Safety and Crime Statistics

Industry Safety and Crime Statistics

  • The National Association of Realtors (NAR) reports that up to 5% of its  roughly 1.5 million members (About 75,000) experience a crime while on the job, which encompasses robberies, physical attacks, and sexual assaults.

  • Broad survey extrapolations suggest tens of thousands of agents face professional-related victimizations or threats annually, but these figures are not broken down specifically into exact numbers for rape.

  • Data indicates that women make up the vast majority of real estate assault and harassment victims, largely due to the solitary nature of meeting unknown clients in vacant or secluded properties.

Safety Risks on the Job

  • Threatening contacts: Many incidents start with inappropriate or threatening texts, emails, or phone calls.

  • Open houses and showings: Vulnerable situations frequently happen during open houses or when meeting unknown clients alone in secluded places.

  • Fear and reporting: Tens of thousands of agents have faced threats, and many safety concerns go unreported

DNA²

Every Story has an Origin

DNA² - Date Night Across America emerged from 4 vital necessities:

a). Provide 100% Safety during the work day for Female Realtors.

b). Free up Homebuyers on the weekend

c). Free up Homesellers on the weekends

d). Free up Realtors on the weekends

a). Homesellers:

The traditional open house on the weekend is a drag to sat the least. It's a drag on the homeseller who has worked all week and wants their weekend off but end up stuck cleaning up the house, cleaning up the garage, cleaning the pool, the list goes on, all in preparation for an open house. Homeowners don't want to have to prepare their home for a showing on the weekends! They want to use their home after a long week of work! In fact, the last thing they want to do is get up early on a Sunday and just prior to going to church or just prior to their day starting, clean their home in preparation for an open house!

b). Homebuyers

Stopping by the see an open house is one thing, touring five homes on the weekend is next to impossible for a prospective homebuyer, and don't think they don't want to see a variety of home! Why can't they tour five homes on the weekend? Answer: Due to the fact that most homeowners don't want to have to prepare their home for a showing on the weekends! They want to use their home after a long week of work! They want to relax on Sunday mornings or prepare for church, not go through the painstaking hell of cleaning their house prior to a 12 Noon showing on a Sunday.

c). Realtors

Many people don't know this about realtors, but most realtors prefer not to be part of an open house. The list of reasons in almost endless. In fact, it's best described as the "Fight or Flight Response Kicks in," and they would prefer to "Flight" as for the most part, open houses on a Sunday are a painstaking hell for most parties involved!

DNA² - Date Night Across America was originally designed with Female Realtors Safety in mind but that's when I spotted the opportunity for homeowners, buyers, and Realtors to reclaim their weekends via once a week evening tour of multiple homes in an entertainment setting, in accordance with the buyers price range.

The Rape that changed company policy

"Selling Real estate is considered

one of the highest-risk professions for Women across the Nation

My name is Bret Martin.

In 1972,

I was 11 years old and quite fortunate in that I was able assist my Father and Aunt before, during, and after their open houses on Sunday afternoons.

My Aunt worked for Tarbell Realtors and my Father worked for E.G. Stassens.

Both of them were highly successful throughout the Portland Oregon metropolitan area

One day the environment changed around the office.

It took a while before I put it two and two together, because adults don't share "bad news" with young people more often than not.

A Female Realtor had been Raped Repeatedly for hours at an open house and left for dead.

From that day forward it became mandatory that the Female Realtors ride with at least one other person to all showings, and that at least one other person needed to be present at all open houses if a Female Realtor was showcasing an open house on the weekends.

I am 64 years old now.

It's 2026.

I've never forgotten what the atmosphere was like when that lady returned back to work some months later, as I was her friend also.

The Light and Confidence that had radiated off of her had all but disappeared.

She was a shell of who she once was.

She barely talked. Nor could she look people in the eye.

As a little boy, It left an indelible impression on me, I felt so sorry for her.

It broke my heart, as we were so close, joking all the time. She was a hoot.

I would later go on to become the Founder of Willamette Mortgage Services Inc., based out of Portland Oregon and employ thousands of men and women during my tenure in the mortgage industry and I worried about our Female Mortgage Brokers all the time as they were constantly alone with male clients they didn't know.

In 2010 I came up with the concept of DNA² - Date Night Across America, after reading an article about a Real Estate agent named Lindsay Buziak who on on February 1, 2008, was raped and murdered while showing a house alone.

She was only 24-years-old.

Then and there I vowed to bring DNA² - Date Night Across America into existence some day.

This is for you Lindsay Buziak, R.I.P.
